There's Demand to Remake Final Fantasy 6 from Within Square Enix, Says Series

Could a remake of Final Fantasy 6 happen at some point? The idea's been floating around for a while, but we're now, apparently, at a point where Square Enix employees want to see it.

This is according to series veteran and current brand manager Yoshinori Kitase, who specifically notes that there's an internal demand for said remake while speaking to IGN.

The outlet asks Kitase for his thoughts on additional remake projects now that Final Fantasy 7 Remake's trilogy is coming to a close, and while he certainly doesn't commit to a definitive answer, his mention of Final Fantasy 6 is enough to raise eyebrows.

Kitase says that while he personally doesn't "have any particular feeling towards any kind of remake" at this moment in time, and that he doesn't believe he'll work on one "anytime soon", there's demand "inside the company".

To me, this seems like the kind of seed that could sprout into something down the line. It's easy to forget that companies as big as Square Enix are seeing constant churn in terms of development teams and project leads; all it takes is for someone to gather support and pitch this potential remake at the right time.

Interestingly, though, it does sound like Kitase's priorities lie elsewhere. At the end of the interview, he says that he'd like to spearhead something with a focus on "battle action", but "without losing the characteristics of a Final Fantasy story".

Final Fantasy 16-2, anyone?
