Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick said that the Extended Look at GTA 6 on Netflix was actually a “tutorial” for players, with a little bit of a twist.
Back on August 27, Rockstar Games pulled the curtain back on gameplay for Grand Theft Auto 6 with a 30-minute-long preview of the game. Unlike in the past, this extended look was entirely gameplay-focused without any narration, and it was actually broadcast on Netflix first.
In the extended look, players got to see how missions start, how many new activities there will be, as well as how some missions will work. There still appears to be more to scratch too, with Rockstar admitting afterwards that it is an “extremely tough” game to showcase because it has “so much” cool stuff under the hood.
Well, according to Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick, the extended look was actually a bit of a “tutorial” for players, even though it didn’t outright feel that way.
GTA 6’s Extended Look was a “tutorial” in a way
“So, part of our marketing is to show people, ‘Hey, what’s up?’ And in certain cases, actually, we have to give something that’s actually called a tutorial to say to people, ‘This is how you play it before people are going to be willing to spend their money to try,’” the Take-Two boss said at a GamesBeat Insider event.
“What Rockstar did was incredible, but there was an element of tutorial baked in there, right? It just was a different kind of proposition.
“If you look at Rockstar’s marketing previously for Grand Theft Auto titles, there are actual tutorials. This was just a different way of giving the same information, which I thought was really impressive.”
As it stands, GTA 6 is full steam ahead towards the November 19 release date. Advertisements for the game are starting in Miami, with a Vice City sign being displayed on the Miami Heat’s Kaseya Center.
