Zelda fans obsessed with Dark Link’s “aura farming” in Ocarina of Time remake

A new Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake trailer has given fans an early glimpse of the Dark Link boss fight, and the community is rightfully losing its mind over his “aura farming” appearance.

Dark Link is one of the most iconic characters in Ocarina of Time, alongside the Bombchu Alley “baddie” whose updated look has made quite a splash among fans.

The Hero of Time’s shadowy nemesis is easily one of the series’ best villains, well, besides Ganondorf himself (we can’t forget the big guy now).

While the latter may be Link’s eternal rival, battling a shadowy version of Link with blood-red eyes after trekking around the Water Temple (don’t take me back) certainly leaves a lasting impression. Fast forward decades later, and it seems Dark Link’s aura continues to prove just as strong.

Dark Link wows with new trailer appearance

On October 15, Nintendo released two separate trailers for its Ocarina of Time remake, giving us a further look at the shiny new additions to Hyrule. However, an exclusive Japanese trailer focused on some of the updated bosses Link will be fighting, all to the tune of Ganondorf’s signature organ playing.

While we got to see Morpha, the giant aquatic amoeba, and the Demon King himself, it’s Dark Link’s brief one-second appearance (yes, it’s that brief) that has left fans stunned. During the short encounter, we see Link dueling his clone in a very foggy, water-soaked arena.

Just like in the original game, when Link thrusts his sword, Dark Link effortlessly leaps onto the tip and stands there looking down at him menacingly. It was cool back in 1998, and it looks like the Zelda community agrees that it’s just as cool, if not even more so in 2026.

“Dark Link was always the scariest part of that game, and the remake finally does him justice,” wrote one commenter. Another fan said that the new fight looked like a huge improvement over the original. “Here there is an audio cue, a camera change, and an aura farming pose. Easy improvement from the original.”

Others commented on how tricky the boss was when they first encountered him: “Guys, I don't know if I'm ready for this. I remember crashing the f*ck out as a kid over this boss.”

Whether Dark Link has any new moves to match his fresh look remains to be seen, but we’ll find out when the Ocarina of Time remake releases on November 5, 2026.
