Rainbow Six Siege boss promises to reward players who stay during GTA 6 launch

Rainbow Six Siege players who stick around during GTA 6's launch will reportedly be treated like royalty, the game's new boss says.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is the kind of release that makes every other game on the planet nervous, no matter the genre. Rockstar's long-awaited sequel has been fueling industry anxiety for years, and Ubisoft knows its 11-year-old tactical shooter is anything but immune. The game's new creative director, however, isn't planning to hide.

Joshua Mills, who took over as Siege's creative director earlier this year after Alexander Karpazis ducked out following the grueling Siege X update, said as much on The Game Business show.

Rather than going quiet when Rockstar's juggernaut arrives, the studio is doubling down, with fresh content being slung at anyone who refuses to leave.

"We've got a big one coming with GTA," Mills explained. "It doesn't matter what genre you're in, you're going to get hit when that drops. People are going to go play and they'll come back and stuff like this. And heck all, of us are going to play."

His golden rule is to 'serve the players who stay like kings and queens.' Mills said “we don't go on vacation because a competitor is swelling the market for a second. We double down and serve as best as we can doing that time just to make sure that anyone who is spending that most valuable resource -- time -- is rewarded for spending it with us."

That means no retreat, as Mills confirmed Season Four is being flung open right around GTA 6's launch window, complete with unannounced surprises held back "to make a bit of a splash." The strategy is partly designed to placate any internal panic, too, since dipping player numbers can rattle a team even when everyone knows the dip is temporary.

It's a defiant stance from a developer who has spent his first year toiling through a ‘baptism of fire’. Mills inherited a crew exhausted by the massive Siege X overhaul, then watched a December 2025 security breach knock the game offline over the holidays. If the new core team can survive that, a little competition from Leonida apparently doesn't scare them.
